Description
One of our most magnificent neolithic monuments, the Calanais standing stones one the Isle of Lewis are thought to be over 5,000 years old – even older than Stonehenge. Placed in a cruciform pattern, they have been used as an important ritual site over the years and weddings and hand fasting ceremonies still take place there.
I wanted to capture the light and shadows around the stones and love the way the glass emphasises the stone shapes. It’s framed in zinc with a hanging chain. It really looks fantastic hanging at a window.
You can read more about the stones here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Callanish_Stones and find out which bands have used the stones on their album covers.
Some of my favourite things to make are stained glass pictures of Scotland’s wildernesss. Can you spot Glencoe in my galleryl? https://kaybeeglass.com/stained-glass-gallery/
