Boudicca (or is it Boudicea?), queen of the British Iceni tribe before AD60, is well known for leading an uprising against the Romans. This is a great example of stained glass art UK, merging the historical and the modern.
Described as “very tall and most terrifying in appearance, she had tawny hair hanging down to below her waist, a harsh voice and a piercing glare” (Cassius Dio, Roman History, 62.2)
This stained glass hanging has been made using the tiffany technique although she could sit on a wooden stand if you prefer. Based on my own drawing, the strong colours represent Boudica’s strength and she is included in my #stainedwomen series.
