I tried to encompass this in my portrait of Margaret, with her distinctive hairstyle a focal point. This is based on my own drawing and I chose the glass to mirror her use of pale colours and floral textures. This is 34 x 31 cm and framed on three sides with hand made hanging loops. This has been made using the tiffany technique. Each piece of glass is hand cut and each edge is smoothed with a grinder then cleaned thoroughly to remove glass dust. Then a thin layer of copper foil is applied to every edge and burnished for a close, smooth fit. The piece is then assembled before soldering and framing. Washing and polishing is the final stage after hanging loops are made and soldered in place.

This time there seems to be no risk to life and no disruption to flights. They say the eruption may last for several years so hopefully I will be able to visit again and view the spectacle. This representation of the volcano is a mixture of opaque purples, blues and greens with translucent orange ‘lava’ flowing around the landscape. It’s 26 x 17 cm and ready to hang at a window with two hooks at the back. It’s got a partial frame on both sides. This hasn’t been created from a template, it started life as a pencil drawing and was built up with individual pieces of glass using the tiffany technique. - [Stained glass window hanging | Amanda Gorman SOLD](https://kaybeeglass.com/https:/kaybeeglass.com/shop/stained-glass-window-hanging-amanda-gorman/) - This stained glass window hanging is just back from being displayed at the Contemporary Glass Society’s Joy of Glass exhibition at the Craft and Design Gallery, Leeds from 23rd April to 4th June 2022. Based on my own drawing that you can see by scrolling through the images, this hanging has been made using the tiffany (copper foil) technique and is framed in zinc with hanging loops. It’s 32 x 21cm. Hanging at a window brings out the best of the glass (particularly the amber sunshine) but it also looks good on a wall, emphasising the face and hair which are opaque glass (see the last photo).

Not a famous stained glass artist but a witch, unknown until now; Katherine Casse was tried as a witch in Dalkeith on 10 September 1657, accused of 13 charges of witchcraft including a claim of satanic powers and causing death through cursing. Thankfully there wasn't enough evidence of a verdict. Were any of these women really witches, or were they just ordinary women and girls? We shall never know. You can see memorial panels of some of these women on the outside of Dalkeith library, painted by local artists. Caroline Peacock painted Katherine Casse, and I had to create her in glass with her fiery red hair and confident posture. Have a look at Isobbell Fergussone who I made at the same time. - [Kelpies SOLD](https://kaybeeglass.com/https:/kaybeeglass.com/shop/kelpies-stained-glass/) - Water kelpies are mythological horses that are said to live amongst the waterways of Scotland and some say they are shape-shifters. This stained glass hanging is based on Andy Scott’s 30m tall sculptures near Falkirk, Scotland that rise up from the Forth and Clyde Canal. The deep blue glass is off-set by iridescent glass water and ears and a pale yellow background. They are 34cm wide by 21 cm tall and have hand made hanging loops securely attached to the lead frame. All of my designs are one-offs as I draw freehand on the glass. This would look equally good hanging on a wall as at a window as the iridescent glass is at its best away from sunlight. Having said that, sunshine really brings out the blue so it’s up to you where you think it will look best!

- [Woman Life Freedom - Mahsa Amini SOLD](https://kaybeeglass.com/https:/kaybeeglass.com/shop/woman-life-freedom-mahsa-amini/) - Mahsa Amini died in September 2022 while in custody in Iran a few days after being arrested for wearing her hijab incorrectly. She was only 22, a similar age to my youngest son. Her death sparked protests across Iran by women and others with many women cutting their hair and dancing in public; actions that are prohibited and that brought great risk to the protesters. They have adopted the slogan Woman Life Freedom and I hope their actions bring change. My portrait is of Mahsa wearing a black hijab and standing against a background of the green, white and red Iranian flag. It has a solid zinc frame and hand made hanging loops. Her face is a beautiful iridescent glass. The portrait is approx A4 size. This is a one-off. I want to make art with purpose and hope this one will raise awareness of injustice, even if only one person who sees it learns something or thinks on Mahsa’s death.
